Started Contributing to LinuxQuestions.org Wiki

February 3, 2005 – 11:04 am

I have recently started contributing to the LinuxQuestions.org Wiki. For a definition of “wiki”, you can look here. I am beginning to realize exactly how much I have relied on the open source community in general for a host of tips and tricks to get my various Linux installations tuned exactly the way I want them, and I have decided that I am better able to contribute to said community by providing documentation than by contributing code.

Specifically, I have contributed to three pages on the wiki so far: iptables, apt-get, and nohup. I actually created the page on “nohup”. That particular subject was listed in the collection of desired pages, and I use the “nohup” command in my research, so I decided to create a short description for others to see.

I have to admit, the wiki thing is pretty addicting. I wish I knew more so I could contribute to more pages, but I am still in the process of combing through the listings and finding anything else that I feel is incomplete to which I can contribute. More on that for another day.
