allmusic

I recently found about the allmusic website while reading a review for a Linux audio player, and I must say I’m pleased to have found it. I mostly use Amazon.com for music searches, as I’m generally looking for song titles or release dates. allmusic seems to have what Amazon has (minus the user reviews, which I sometimes find useful) but gives much more information about the band you’re looking at. I haven’t had time to do a lot of browsing, but from what I’ve seen so far, I will definitely pay this site another visit.

Oh, and Greg recently started up his own blog, so check it out when you get a chance.

  2. Wow… I take allmusic for granted. Whenever I’m thinking about buying a new CD or want to know more about an artist, I check out their stuff. I’ve bought plenty of CDs based on their reviews and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately, their last site redesign has made it occasionally run really slow (the pages are big), but the astounding wealth of information is really worth it.

Something else: Barnes & Noble and (I think) Amazon (among others) sometimes/often use the album reviews from allmusic on their pages either in place of their own review or in addition to their own review. You’ve probably read some of their stuff before and never realized the source.

  3. There are also:

www.allmovie.com - probably not as good as the IMDB

    www.allgame.com - computer/video game review/info site (Haven’t used this any)

(www.allbook.com is unaffiliated and www.allbooks.com takes you to Amazon… It’s kind of a shame that there isn’t a site for books along the lines of www.allmusic.com that has publication information about various releases. Most stores only have info on current releases.)
