Tiger Woods Wins The Masters
April 10, 2005 – 9:00 pmTiger Woods won The Masters today, and I sat in bed the whole afternoon to watch it. I doubt I’m the only one who does this sort of thing, watching golf when Tiger is in contention on Sunday. Whenever you hear arguments about Tiger being good for the game of golf, this is the scenario you should keep in mind. Don’t get me wrong; I’ve watched the final round of a major championship when Tiger wasn’t in contention before, but I change my schedule around if Tiger’s close. If Tiger’s not close today, I’m going into lab to get work done.
It was pretty awesome to watch Tiger sink that shot on the 16th hole. In fact, my dad did something similar once, coming out of a bunker if I remember correctly. I don’t think millions of people were watching, nor were there potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line, but it was one hell of a shot nonetheless. After Tiger hit that shot, CBS showed a replay from a different angle, and as the ball goes in the cup, you see two rather large men start bear hugging one another and jumping around. That was pretty funny.
After the playoff hole, one of the CBS commentators interviewed Chris DiMarco (the guy Tiger beat). DiMarco was holding his one year old daughter in one arm and had his other arm around his nine year old son, who was standing next to him. When the commentator lifted the microphone up for DiMarco to speak into, his daughter would stretch her arm out until all of her fingers were on the microphone. She’d then squeeze the microphone and let it go a few times in a row. One time, the commentator pulled the microphone back to say something himself, and the little girl reached down to her older brother and did the same trick with his nose instead of the microphone. Quite a cute end to the tournament.
