Taboo For Nerds

April 24, 2005 – 1:40 pm

The teams: Greg, Suvir, and Ariele versus Mike, Paul, and myself. Six nerds. No question about it. For those who haven’t played, Taboo is a game that pits two teams against each other with the goal of trying to get your teammate to say a particular word. The catch? The person trying to give hints as to what word his or her teammates should say cannot say the word itself or any of the five words listed on the game card. So, if you were trying to get your teammates to say “judge”, you could not use words like “court”, “bench”, “sits”, etc. There are always five such restricted words listed per card.

There were three particularly nerdy exchanges that I can remember from last night. All of them were guessed correctly.

Paul: “A person with lots of cash…ten to the sixth.”
Mike: “Millionaire!”

Ariele: “A type of oscillator.”
Greg: “Harmonic!”
Ariele: “Now add something.”
Greg: “Harmonica!”

Me: “When you acoustically excite something, it begins to”
Mike: “Vibrate!”

  2. I believe Suvir said “crenellated epidermis” to get goosebumps. I can’t believe “crenellated” wasn’t one of the words you couldn’t say. What an easy game.
