A Successor to Fortran?
April 30, 2005 – 11:21 pmI saw an article on Slashdot the other day that piqued my interest. The article links to, among other things, a PDF version of a draft of the language specification for a new programming language that is meant to succeed Fortran. I don’t have a great deal of time to study the draft in any depth, but since I use Fortran for my research codes, I’m definitely interested to hear if the Fortan community has any discernible reaction to the news. I can’t imagine the evolution even beginning to take place in the near future, but who knows, maybe there are very tangible benefits to be had.
One Response to “A Successor to Fortran?”
The IBM language, PL/1, was designed (and implimented) as a successor to FORTRAN.
