A Prairie Home Companion

June 6, 2005 – 11:59 am

On Friday night, Adam, Ted, Katie, Betsy, Julie, Ariele, and I went down to the Hollywood Bowl to see Garrison Keillor and the taping of this week’s A Prairie Home Companion. I was the only Companion neophyte amongst the group, but I ended up having a great time.

A Prairie Home Companion, as best I can tell, is a variety show aired on various public radio stations across the country. Garrison Keillor is the host, and he simply has a classic radio voice. He’s not the most attractive man on the planet, and he joked about that fact during the opening to the show. He mentioned something about how a man with a radio face was a hosting a live show for the beautiful people of Hollywood.

The show mainly consisted of skits and live music acts. There was a great sound effects guy who participated integrally in most of the skits. The live music acts were varied and all top notch at what they did. I have now been to the Hollywood Bowl twice, both times to see variety type shows (the last time was last July 4th for an independence day celebration). If you’re coming to LA and looking for something to do, I would definitely recommend a trip to the Hollywood Bowl.
