The Nike Run, Part 2
June 14, 2005 – 12:15 pmGreg, Mike, Suvir, Michelle, Heather, Ariele and I went to the second installment of this summer’s Nike run last night, and I reached a personal milestone. I ran three miles consecutively. Please, hold your applause. This may be no big deal for some people, but I have never run more than one mile consecutively. That’s all they made me run in junior high school during gym class, and I sure haven’t done much running since then.
All of us followed the three mile route through a portion of downtown Pasadena. Greg and I ran in the eleven to eleven and a half minute per mile pace group. Michelle and Mike ran in the ten to ten and a half minute group, and Ariele and Suvir ran in the nine to nine and a half minute group. Heather walked the route, as Greg and I had done with her last week. We all finished with our respective groups, and then it was on to the free beers and food.
As was the case last week, the organizers of the event raffled off a few items at the end of the evening. The final raffle was for the people who were holding tickets they received as a result of trying a pair of Nike shoes during the run. When you show up initially, you can hand over your ID and get a pair of Nikes to run with instead of your own shoes. I decided to do it because my cross trainers hurt my lower legs a little bit after half of a mile or so. The new shoes did quite well for me. Regardless, I received a raffle ticket for trying the shoes during the run, and I ended up winning a Nike watch. A terrific haul for the evening, being that I again was able to enjoy two free beers using Ariele’s ticket for the second one.
One more week of the eleven to eleven and a half pace group, and then I might consider trying the ten to ten and a half group. I’ll see how it goes.
