The Almost Ego Boost
October 30, 2005 – 4:34 pmI was driving back to the apartment after running a quick errand this afternoon, and soon after I pull up at a stop light, a Volvo SUV pulls up beside me, on the driver’s side of my car. This blond bombshell of a woman leans forward and smiles at me. Just as I am about to absorb one of the biggest ego boosts I have ever received, she raises her left hand in a Hook ‘em Horns sign. Of course I smile and give her the Hook ‘em Horns in return.
This sort of thing has happened before since I’ve moved to California, with some regularity in fact. It seems Longhorns are all over the place. She knew I was a Longhorn because I have a Texas Exes Life Member license plate frame on the back of my car. Between the license plate frame and my regular wearing of Texas regalia, I attract quite a few honking of car horns and Hook ‘em hand signs as I move around southern California.
But, to be honest, it would have been that much cooler if my looks, instead of my license plate frame, had earned the smile. Maybe next time.

I’m still waiting for a beautiful woman to notice my Rice bumper sticker, pull up next to me, and make the Rice “willy-wings” sign (Rice’s mascot is the owl).

Hehe…you might be waiting a while for that one. Student body size (both current and former) is working against you here.
On the other hand, maybe we should perform a study of bumper stickers/license plate holders/other car decorations that generate the most interest from attractive women. I am sure quite a few guys would be interested in this.
