Samberg and Parnell Rap About Narnia

February 6, 2006 – 10:23 pm

I read an article from ZDNet today that gave me a link to a priceless video: Lazy Sunday.

The video is of Saturday Night Live (SNL) comedians Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell performing a rap about the snacks they’re going to eat on their way to see the movie The Chronicles of Narnia. It looks as though the video aired late last year as a sketch on Saturday Night Live. I am very sorry I missed this sketch, because this is one of the funniest SNL pieces I have ever seen.

The ZDNet article is specifically about a second rap video that an actor and film editor in Los Angeles have put together to answer Samberg’s and Parnell’s offering. The article provides a link to this retaliatory video: Lazy Monday.

It looks like the LA guys are getting some heat about their video. Neither rap is at all offensive (with the possible exception of one bleeped out expletive in Lazy Sunday), but many are claiming that Lazy Monday is either not funny, not original, or both.

I watched both, and Lazy Sunday is clearly the funnier of the two. You can’t really expect the retaliatory video to be as funny as the original, but I don’t really understand why the guys who made the video are catching so much flak. If you’re only going to watch one video, though, definitely watch Lazy Sunday. It’s a riot.

  2. My brother showed me that video over Christmas break. It truly is one of the best things that SNL has done in a while. It even got the “Dad seal of approval”. By which I mean that while my brother and I were laughing our hearts out, our dad yelled from the other room, “What the hell is that crap?” I haven’t checked out Lazy Monday yet.
