Just Trust Me, Dude
February 23, 2006 – 9:04 amThat is pretty much what President Bush is saying to everyone today while he is trying to combat the criticism of his administration’s approval of the taking over of our country’s major port operations by a United Arab Emirates-owned company.
I’ll leave it to President Bush:
“This deal wouldn’t go forward if we were concerned about the security of the United States of America,” Bush told reporters during a Cabinet meeting.
Just trust me, dude. I’ve got you covered. If my administration had any knowledge that port security would be adversely affected, we wouldn’t approve this deal.
Well, a lot of people got caught “just trusting” the president that the “information” being presented in the lead-up to the war in Iraq was legitimate, and we’ve all seen what happened as a result. No weapons of mass destruction. No ties to Al-Qaeda. No, thanks, I’ll go ahead and not trust you guys on this one.
And here is my favorite quote from the article:
Bush added, “It’s really important that we not send mixed messages to allies.”
Whether it’s the troops or the allies, we need to make sure our message is clear. Agree with the President whole-heartedly, and please do not make any public criticism. It kills the morale of our troops and confuses our allies.
What a steaming load of…

But the deal *is* going forward, so… therefore, they are not concerned about security?

My thoughts exactly, Ellen. What a poorly worded phrase.
