Tom Cruise Is Nuts
May 9, 2006 – 12:51 pmI am not a big fan of “entertainment news”. I try to stay away from it whenever possible. I inevitably see whatever makes it to the front page of Google News, and that’s usually more than enough.
A few weeks ago, I remember seeing a story about Tom Cruise saying that he was going to eat his baby daughter’s placenta after she was born. What? I hadn’t even heard of that before, but sure enough, it does happen in some parts of the world:
Then comes the practice of placentophagia, eating the placenta, is also practiced in some parts of the world. There are even meal like recipes for cooking placentas, including placenta stew, placenta lasagna, power drinks with blended placenta and others. Though some mothers have been reported to eat placenta raw.
So, this was all background. I had summarily forgotten about all of this, and today I stumbled across an article on The Register about how Tom Cruise is suing the owner of TomCruise.com. That seems to make sense, wanting to own your namesake domain. Well, it at least makes sense to me.
At the end of the article, we learn about the sometimes adversarial relationship between Tom Cruise and the Internet, and a link is given to TomCruiseIsNuts.com. And here I find the beauty of the Internet.
Yes, the Internet is great for having a seemingly limitless amount of information (or misinformation, as the case may be) at your fingertips, but there’s something about anyone being able to craft a webpage about anything that is inspiring. Tom Cruise is nuts. I think that’s a documented fact. Why shouldn’t we have a website proclaiming this?

So, thankfully the whole placenta thing was a joke, at least in Tom’s case. Apparently he said that in response to all of the flack he’s been getting about Scientology. He apparently figured that if people are going to think he’s crazy, he might as well give them some fodder for the fire. Of course, the fact that the placenta thing isn’t true doesn’t mean the guy isn’t a total whacko. Then again, as long as he puts out a decent movie every few years, I really don’t care what he believes. Lord knows that plenty of people in Hollywood are at least as nuts as he is.

What can I say? I guess we Chinese just eat everything.
Tom Cruise has a track record of suing people. He sued a gay porn star in 2001. Then, he teammed up with Nicole Kidman and sued Sephora in 2002. I think it just shows that he is really petty. I mean, when you are in the showbiz, you are expected to be talked about. At the end of the day, no news is bad news. Paris Hilton would tell paparazzi her daily itinerary so that she can get her pictures taken. Well, I guess Tom Cruise is too cool and he only wants positive publicity.
