Red Sox Versus Angels

August 23, 2006 – 9:32 am

Ariele and I went to the Red Sox/Angels game in Anaheim last night with several friends. The game was great. Very compelling baseball. The Angels ended up winning 4-3, with Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez surviving a ninth inning home run scare from pinch hitter Manny Ramirez which died at the warning track.

After the game, we started the long walk back to the car. We were in the middle of the parking lot, still walking out toward the car, when we ran across a small group of Angels fans and two Red Sox fans. The Angels fans were throwing some taunts around, the two Red Sox fans, both guys in their mid-twenties, decided to respond. I found what ensued to be hilarious.

The bigger of the two Red Sox fans starts chanting in a very loud monotone: “Red Sox, Red Sox, Red Sox”, almost like a car alarm or an ambulance siren. Just over and over and over again with “Red Sox, Red Sox, Red Sox”. This other guy, the sidekick, decides to throw together a makeshift rap to go on top of this “Red Sox” chant. It goes something like, “Yeah! What you talkin’ ’bout? Go Red Sox! Where you at Boston?” So you have to imagine this latter part slowed down, played to the beat of the monotone “Red Sox” chant, with some jive hand gestures and pseudo-dancing thrown in.

It was priceless.
