Ohio State is the Best Team in the Country
October 1, 2006 – 10:45 pmI don’t think there’s much of an argument to be made about whether Ohio State is the best college football team in the country right now: they are. I watched most of the Ohio State-Iowa game, and Ohio State just dominated from the get go. That running back combination of Antonio Pittman and Chris Wells is brutal. And boy does Pittman like the left hand side of that offensive line. It seemed like Ohio State could gain at least six yards at will on any offensive down against Iowa.
I also watched most of the Auburn-South Carolina game on Thursday night, and let me just say the dunce that voted Auburn number one in the country in the latest AP poll should think about handing back those press credentials. South Carolina (yes, unranked South Carolina) nearly pulled out a home victory over Auburn, while Ohio State dismantled a very good Big Ten team in Iowa on the road, a team ranked in the top fifteen.
After watching the better part of those two games, I just can’t see how any member of the media with an AP ballot could vote Auburn to be the best team in the country right now. It’s not that big of a deal, but it bugs me that I can’t come up with a single rational explanation why Auburn is a better football team than Ohio State, yet Auburn still received a single first place vote. That’s the college football polling system for you.
