President Bush Takes The Blame

November 8, 2006 – 12:49 pm

President Bush finally held himself accountable today…for the fact that the Republicans were unable yesterday to hold on to their majority in the House of Representatives (and possibly in the Senate as well).

President Bush took responsibility Wednesday for Democrats taking control of the House after midterm elections, and it appears Democrats are one seat closer to holding a majority in the Senate as well.

“I’m obviously disappointed with the outcome of the election and, as the head of the Republican Party, I share a large part of the responsibility,” Bush said at a White House news conference.

Okay. And where is this sentiment when it comes to the thousands of American men and women who have lost their lives in Iraq? What about being held accountable for listening to the phone calls and reading the email exchanges of Americans without the proper court warrants? What about taking responsibility for a national debt that is growing by hundreds of billions of dollars every year and whose interest me and my children will be paying for decades upon decades to come? Why doesn’t the president take responsibility there?

Because politics is the only thing that matters to this president. He would rather take responsibility for his party losing elections than for his party governing poorly. That says a lot.
