John Madden Gets the Quote of the Day
December 11, 2006 – 1:07 amGoing into the weekend, many people would have said the Colts were the best team in the AFC and the Cowboys were the best team in the NFC. And let me tell you, both of those teams got absolutely demolished this weekend. The Jaguars beat up on the Colts, and the Saints tore up the Cowboys.
The Saints-Cowboys game was the Sunday night game announced by Al Michaels and John Madden on NBC. After Reggie Bush scored his touchdown on the screen pass he broke wide open, Michaels and Madden noted how Texans fans are likely in dismay over not picking Reggie Bush in the draft this year, especially given the way Bush has exploded the past two weeks. Madden then said something that made me laugh out loud:
Hey, I want this guy on my team. If I have first pick, I’m pickin’ Reggie Bush. I don’t even know what the game is.
Priceless. Any game that requires any amount of agility whatsoever…yeah, I’m probably picking Reggie Bush first.

I enjoyed the Al Michaels comment as much as Madden’s. I’m paraphrasing, but after the Bush run he said he said something like: “And every Texans fan is saying ‘what the hell did we do in the draft?’”
And how about Vince Young!! You probably didn’t get the game in LA, but the walk off TD by Vince in OT was a perfect way to say “How do you like me now?” to Bob McNair.

Yeah, we’re already seeing this year’s NFL draft go down in the Sam Bowie/Michael Jordan mold. But this time around, it was obvious to everybody that it was downright foolish to pass on Reggie Bush. And these moments of regret will only increase in frequency for the next eight to ten years.
But yeah, Vince looked awesome, at least on the highlight reels I saw. Do you think it was possible, while still being realistic, for Reggie Bush and Vince Young to have better years and Mario Williams to have a worse year? I think there aren’t too many realistic scenarios that are more extreme than what we’re seeing.
