One of the Saddest Days Yet in Iraq
January 21, 2007 – 2:22 pmI feel hypocritical choosing the title I did, because I am sure there have been deadlier days for innocent civilians in Iraq, but today was an exceptionally deadly day for American soldiers in that country. Given that I am an American, this is particularly saddening for me.
This CNN story has the details:
Attacks in Iraq and the crash of a Black Hawk helicopter brought to 25 the number of American troops killed in Iraq on Saturday, making it one of the deadliest days for the U.S. military since the war began almost four years ago.
It can be difficult to appreciate the significance of losing one American soldier, let alone twenty five of them, when over three thousand such soldiers have already perished. It is very sad thinking that today, twenty five families spread across who knows what portions of the United States are receiving the worst news they will ever hear in their lives. All in a single day. All because we want to fight in someone else’s civil war.
I don’t know what else to say other than it’s very, very sad.
