Will the Celtics Repeat?

They seem to have a decent shot at it. Of course the odds are that no, they won’t repeat. The smarter bet is on the field. The Celtics have an interesting path going forward: their three superstars are all in their primes and will only likely produce less with time. On the other hand, they have some young players that should improve (Rondo, Perkins, Powe, Davis, etc.).

One interesting thing to consider is their role players. How much does James Posey have left in the tank? What about Eddie House? Sam Cassell is nearly done.

This example is one of those interesting dilemmas in basketball. The three guys who carried you to this championship are only going to decline with time, but your young role players are going to improve. Is there sufficient balance to keep the team at a championship level? I’d be very surprised if the Celtics aren’t back in the conference finals next season. But predicting them to win a second consecutive championship seems a bit much.
